The moment when you enter the Partnach Gorge and are surrounded by massive rock faces is almost unrivalled. You can hear the water rushing beneath you. Wild and irrepressible. You can only imagine the enormous masses of water that have carved out the rocks over the centuries. As you walk along the impressive rock massifs, you marvel at the new, breathtaking perspectives and play of colours with every step.

The formation of a gorge is just as extraordinary as experiencing it up close. Several million years ago, meltwater and debris hollowed out the hard rock. What remained was a narrow gorge - the Partnachklamm in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

However, the gorge, which was declared a natural monument in 1912, was not always so tame and approachable. Today, two safe paths lead through it, whereas in the past you could only approach the Partnach at the risk of your life. Once you are there, its wild waterfalls, rapids and pools cast a spell over you.
