Linderhof Palace is the smallest of King Ludwig II's three palaces. Linderhof Palace and Park is one of the most diverse and artistic ensembles of the 19th century. The "Royal Villa" is the only palace that King Ludwig II of Bavaria was able to complete. It was modelled on the small pleasure palace, usually situated in a park, that was built in France in the 18th century and was also frequently erected in the parks of large castles in Germany.
 
Every year on 25 August, celebrations are held at Linderhof Palace, the favourite retreat of the shy fairytale king. A special programme is held in honour of the monarch's birthday. Guests can take part in special guided tours, musical performances and readings in the afternoon during the King Ludwig Night.
