Beautiful Alpine spa town
The state spa resort of Bad Reichenhall lies just outside Salzburg, Mozart's birthplace, and is framed by the mountains of the Berchtesgadener Land. It's well worth a visit if you are on your way to Lake Königssee, or alternatively round off your day here with a relaxing swim at the Rupertus thermal baths.
Just before the gates of Mozart's city of Salzburg is the Bavarian state spa Bad Reichenhall, harmoniously framed by the Berchtesgaden mountains. Well worth a visit as an excursion on the way to lake Königssee, or as a finale where we can reminisce over our journey with a dip in the spa Rupertus Therme. In 1890 the city of Reichenhall was given, by royal decree, the title „bad" (baths) and as of 1899 became the official state baths for the state of Bavaria. Since then it has maintained an excellent reputation amongst the great European spas with over 150 years of tradition.
The mild and tranquil Alpine climate frees the body and mind. Taking a deep breath we stroll through the historic old town with its medieval village character, continuing through a pedestrian zone with Italian flair surrounded by magnificent Art Nouveau buildings in all directions. A host of fountains pour out around the town, the glistening Saalach river vigorously flows through it, and beautiful parks dress this Alpine pearl in green feel-good surroundings.
Ever more intense than that, embodying the town's motto 'breath', are the healing-spring's original Alpine brine inhalations - the effective Alpine brine gives a strong immune system and respiratory tract. Add to this a stimulating touch of 'spa music', played live in the royal spa gardens, and the exhilarating joys of life pulsate through our veins.
Hiking is always in season in Bad Reichenhall and Bayerisch Gmain, from barrier-free, almost flat, low valley trails to challenging mountain routes way above with exhillarating views over lake Chiemsee, Berchtesgaden and towards Austria. Whether in the valley or on the nearby Predigtstuhl mountain, there are plenty of idyllic spots for a hearty snack or drink.
